I've been looking through old stuff, and thinking about how I would design it now. I did a speedboat a while back, and wanted to look at it again with a more extreme aesthetic.

These are not toys

This is actually an Air Force photo of an F-22 flightline, and I messed around in photoshop to give it that toy-like focus that I've seen a few photographers do these days. It's pretty cool to learn these kind of effects and think about how I could apply them to my design presentations. It could be a pretty cool tool, how to use it... Check out the link to the tutorial. Monster

I saw this on a really amazing website called Shorpy. This is the Chesapeake & Ohio M-1 steam turbine locomotive in 1949. These engines were coal-fired turbines that produced 6,000 horsepower! They were complete failures, unless you measure success in terms of awesomeness. They were built in 1947 by Baldwin Locomotive Works, and because they were massively complex and expensive, were retired by 1950. What a beast!

Urban Shed Competition

This is my entry to the Urban Shed International Competition. It is a sidewalk cover to protect pedestrians from falling construction debris. It acts as an urban forrest canopy. Providing protection and enhancing the aesthetics of the city scape. Its made up of heavy-duty recycled plastic triangles, which are fit together to create shapes which can be site specific. The triangle are empty in the middle, and covered with a mesh which protects while allowing light to penetrate to the street below.

Design God

Ive been reading a book about Raymond Loewy. That guy was really ahead of his time. He got to design everything from logos, to entire trains right down to the food that was on the menu! A lot of his logos and designs are still in use today even though they were designed in the 1930's, like the Shell oil company. His train designs were really great because he took steam locomotives in the 1930's, which were essentially 19th century technology, and modernized them using the then new concept of streamlining and aerodynamics. I got inspired to do some train sketching of my own.
